Questions and answers from this day. Play today's quiz to build your streak.

Question 1 · Pythagoras theorem

A right-angled triangle has legs of 24 cm and 45 cm. How long is the hypotenuse?

  1. A. 102 cm
  2. B. 21 cm
  3. C. 52 cm
  4. D. 51 cm ✓

Answer: 51 cm. c² = 24² + 45² = 576 + 2025 = 2601, so c = 51 cm.

Question 2 · Trigonometry

Find the value of sin 30° + cos 60°.

  1. A. 1/4
  2. B. 1 ✓
  3. C. 1/2
  4. D. 5/4

Answer: 1. Use sin 30° = ½, cos 60° = ½, tan 45° = 1, sin 90° = 1 and cos 0° = 1. sin 30° + cos 60° = 1.

Question 3 · Probability

A bag holds 2 red, 5 blue and 3 green balls. One ball is picked at random. What is the probability it is red?

  1. A. 3/10
  2. B. 4/5
  3. C. 1/5 ✓
  4. D. 1/2

Answer: 1/5. Probability = favourable ÷ total = 2/10 = 1/5.

Question 4 · Mensuration

A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 11 cm. What is its volume? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 1694 cm³ ✓
  2. B. 1701 cm³
  3. C. 1848 cm³
  4. D. 3388 cm³

Answer: 1694 cm³. Volume = π r² h = 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 11 = 1694 cm³.

Question 5 · Linear equations

If x + y = 15 and x − y = 7, what is x?

  1. A. 22
  2. B. 12
  3. C. 7
  4. D. 11 ✓

Answer: 11. Add the two equations: 2x = 15 + 7 = 22, so x = 11.
