Answer: 6. Subtract 1 from both sides: 3x = 18. Divide by 3: x = 6.

Question 3 · Integers

What is −6 + 6 − (−4)?

  4. D. 8

Answer: 4. Subtracting a negative adds: −6 + 6 + 4 = 4.

Question 4 · Ratios

₹80 is shared between Ria and Sam in the ratio 4 : 6. How much does Sam get?

  1. A. ₹48 ✓
  2. B. ₹40
  3. C. ₹56
  4. D. ₹32

Answer: ₹48. 4 + 6 = 10 equal parts. One part = ₹80 ÷ 10 = ₹8. Sam gets 6 parts = ₹48.

Question 5 · Discounts

A jacket costs ₹1,400. After a 10% discount, what do you pay?

  1. A. ₹1,310
  2. B. ₹1,210
  3. C. ₹1,260 ✓
  4. D. ₹140

Answer: ₹1,260. 10% of ₹1,400 = ₹140. ₹1,400 − ₹140 = ₹1,260.
