Questions and answers from this day. Play today's quiz to build your streak.

Question 1 · Pythagoras theorem

A right-angled triangle has legs of 24 cm and 45 cm. How long is the hypotenuse?

  1. A. 21 cm
  2. B. 50 cm
  3. C. 69 cm
  4. D. 51 cm ✓

Answer: 51 cm. c² = 24² + 45² = 576 + 2025 = 2601, so c = 51 cm.

Question 2 · Quadratic equations

What is the larger root of x² − 5x + 4 = 0?

  1. A. 4 ✓
  2. B. 5
  3. C. 3
  4. D. 1

Answer: 4. x² − 5x + 4 = (x − 4)(x − 1) = 0, so the roots are 4 and 1. The larger is 4.

Question 3 · Mensuration

A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 14 cm. What is its volume? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 308 cm³
  2. B. 2156 cm³ ✓
  3. C. 4312 cm³
  4. D. 2310 cm³

Answer: 2156 cm³. Volume = π r² h = 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 14 = 2156 cm³.

Question 4 · Probability

A bag holds 5 red, 2 blue and 1 green balls. One ball is picked at random. What is the probability it is red?

  1. A. 5/2
  2. B. 3/4
  3. C. 5/8 ✓
  4. D. 3/8

Answer: 5/8. Probability = favourable ÷ total = 5/8.

Question 5 · Coordinate geometry

Find the distance between the points (5, 1) and (15, 25).

  1. A. 25
  2. B. 27
  3. C. 240
  4. D. 26 ✓

Answer: 26. Distance = √(10² + 24²) = √676 = 26.
