₹112 is shared between Ria and Sam in the ratio 1 : 7. How much does Sam get?

Answer: ₹98. 1 + 7 = 8 equal parts. One part = ₹112 ÷ 8 = ₹14. Sam gets 7 parts = ₹98.

Question 2 · Triangle area

A triangle has a base of 12 cm and a height of 13 cm. What is its area?

  1. A. 78 cm² ✓
  2. B. 312 cm²
  3. C. 156 cm²
  4. D. 25 cm²

Answer: 78 cm². Area = ½ × base × height = ½ × 12 × 13 = 78 cm².

Question 3 · Simple interest

Find the simple interest on ₹3,000 at 9% per year for 3 years.

  1. A. ₹81
  2. B. ₹8,100
  3. C. ₹3,810
  4. D. ₹810 ✓

Answer: ₹810. Simple interest = P × R × T ÷ 100 = 3000 × 9 × 3 ÷ 100 = ₹810.

Question 4 · Discounts

A jacket costs ₹900. After a 10% discount, what do you pay?

  1. A. ₹90
  2. B. ₹810 ✓
  3. C. ₹890
  4. D. ₹990

Answer: ₹810. 10% of ₹900 = ₹90. ₹900 − ₹90 = ₹810.

Question 5 · Circles

A circle has a radius of 14 cm. What is its area? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 638 cm²
  2. B. 616 cm² ✓
  3. C. 1232 cm²
  4. D. 196 cm²

Answer: 616 cm². Area = π × r² = 22/7 × 14 × 14 = 616 cm².
