Questions and answers from this day. Play today's quiz to build your streak.

Question 1 · Mensuration

A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 6 cm. What is its volume? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 1078 cm³
  2. B. 924 cm³ ✓
  3. C. 264 cm³
  4. D. 1848 cm³

Answer: 924 cm³. Volume = π r² h = 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 6 = 924 cm³.

Question 2 · Algebraic identities

If a + b = 9 and ab = 4, what is a² + b²?

  1. A. 89
  2. B. 77
  3. C. 75
  4. D. 73 ✓

Answer: 73. (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b², so a² + b² = 9² − 2 × 4 = 81 − 8 = 73.

Question 3 · Probability

A bag holds 5 red, 1 blue and 1 green balls. One ball is picked at random. What is the probability it is red?

  1. A. 5/8
  2. B. 5/7 ✓
  3. C. 1/7
  4. D. 2/7

Answer: 5/7. Probability = favourable ÷ total = 5/7.

Question 4 · AP sums

Find the sum of the first 18 terms of the AP that starts at 1 with common difference 1.

  1. A. 342
  2. B. 171 ✓
  3. C. 162
  4. D. 170

Answer: 171. Sum = n/2 × (2a + (n − 1)d) = 18/2 × (2 + 17) = 171.

Question 5 · Quadratic equations

What is the larger root of x² − 10x + 16 = 0?

  1. A. 6
  2. B. 2
  3. C. 10
  4. D. 8 ✓

Answer: 8. x² − 10x + 16 = (x − 8)(x − 2) = 0, so the roots are 8 and 2. The larger is 8.
