₹90 is shared between Ria and Sam in the ratio 3 : 6. How much does Sam get?

Answer: ₹60. 3 + 6 = 9 equal parts. One part = ₹90 ÷ 9 = ₹10. Sam gets 6 parts = ₹60.

Question 2 · Averages

What is the average of 92, 86, 78, 77 and 97?

  1. A. 87
  2. B. 84
  3. C. 85
  4. D. 86 ✓

Answer: 86. Add the numbers: 92 + 86 + 78 + 77 + 97 = 430. Divide by 5: 430 ÷ 5 = 86.

Question 3 · Discounts

A jacket costs ₹800. After a 25% discount, what do you pay?

  1. A. ₹775
  2. B. ₹200
  3. C. ₹600 ✓
  4. D. ₹650

Answer: ₹600. 25% of ₹800 = ₹200. ₹800 − ₹200 = ₹600.

Question 4 · Linear equations

Solve for x: 3x + 14 = 20

  3. C. 2 ✓
  4. D. 17

Answer: 2. Subtract 14 from both sides: 3x = 6. Divide by 3: x = 2.

Question 5 · Simple interest

Find the simple interest on ₹8,000 at 9% per year for 3 years.

  1. A. ₹2,160 ✓
  2. B. ₹216
  3. C. ₹21,600
  4. D. ₹2,960

Answer: ₹2,160. Simple interest = P × R × T ÷ 100 = 8000 × 9 × 3 ÷ 100 = ₹2,160.
