Find the sum of the first 20 terms of the AP that starts at 2 with common difference 5.

  1. A. 1980
  2. B. 1010
  3. C. 1040
  4. D. 990 ✓

Answer: 990. Sum = n/2 × (2a + (n − 1)d) = 20/2 × (4 + 95) = 990.

Question 2 · Pythagoras theorem

A right-angled triangle has legs of 15 cm and 36 cm. How long is the hypotenuse?

  1. A. 51 cm
  2. B. 21 cm
  3. C. 38 cm
  4. D. 39 cm ✓

Answer: 39 cm. c² = 15² + 36² = 225 + 1296 = 1521, so c = 39 cm.

Question 3 · Mensuration

A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 9 cm. What is its volume? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 1540 cm³
  2. B. 396 cm³
  3. C. 1386 cm³ ✓
  4. D. 198 cm³

Answer: 1386 cm³. Volume = π r² h = 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 9 = 1386 cm³.

Question 4 · Linear equations

If x + y = 18 and x − y = 6, what is x?

  1. A. 12 ✓
  2. B. 18
  3. C. 13
  4. D. 6

Answer: 12. Add the two equations: 2x = 18 + 6 = 24, so x = 12.
