Answer: 9. Subtract 2 from both sides: 9x = 81. Divide by 9: x = 9.

Question 2 · Ratios

₹55 is shared between Ria and Sam in the ratio 5 : 6. How much does Sam get?

  2. B. ₹30 ✓
  3. C. ₹27.5
  4. D. ₹35

Answer: ₹30. 5 + 6 = 11 equal parts. One part = ₹55 ÷ 11 = ₹5. Sam gets 6 parts = ₹30.

Question 3 · Circles

A circle has a radius of 7 cm. What is its area? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 49 cm²
  2. B. 22 cm²
  3. C. 176 cm²
  4. D. 154 cm² ✓

Answer: 154 cm². Area = π × r² = 22/7 × 7 × 7 = 154 cm².

Question 4 · Simple interest

Find the simple interest on ₹5,000 at 7% per year for 3 years.

  1. A. ₹6,050
  2. B. ₹1,050 ✓
  3. C. ₹105
  4. D. ₹980

Answer: ₹1,050. Simple interest = P × R × T ÷ 100 = 5000 × 7 × 3 ÷ 100 = ₹1,050.

Question 5 · Triangle area

A triangle has a base of 20 cm and a height of 4 cm. What is its area?

  1. A. 40 cm² ✓
  2. B. 160 cm²
  3. C. 80 cm²
  4. D. 44 cm²

Answer: 40 cm². Area = ½ × base × height = ½ × 20 × 4 = 40 cm².
