Question 1 · Trigonometry

Find the value of sin 30° × cos 60° + tan 45°.

Answer: 5/4. Use sin 30° = ½, cos 60° = ½, tan 45° = 1, sin 90° = 1 and cos 0° = 1. sin 30° × cos 60° + tan 45° = 5/4.

Question 2 · Mensuration

Answer: 1540 cm³. Volume = π r² h = 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 10 = 1540 cm³.

Question 3 · Algebraic identities

Answer: 50. (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b², so a² + b² = 8² − 2 × 7 = 64 − 14 = 50.

Question 4 · Coordinate geometry

Answer: 17. Distance = √(8² + 15²) = √289 = 17.

Question 5 · Quadratic equations

Answer: 9. x² − 10x + 9 = (x − 9)(x − 1) = 0, so the roots are 9 and 1. The larger is 9.
