Answer: 6. Subtract 10 from both sides: 4x = 24. Divide by 4: x = 6.

Question 2 · Discounts

A jacket costs ₹2,000. After a 15% discount, what do you pay?

  2. B. ₹1,650
  3. C. ₹300
  4. D. ₹1,700 ✓

Answer: ₹1,700. 15% of ₹2,000 = ₹300. ₹2,000 − ₹300 = ₹1,700.

Question 3 · Ratios

₹120 is shared between Ria and Sam in the ratio 1 : 7. How much does Sam get?

  1. A. ₹30
  2. B. ₹105 ✓
  3. C. ₹15
  4. D. ₹90

Answer: ₹105. 1 + 7 = 8 equal parts. One part = ₹120 ÷ 8 = ₹15. Sam gets 7 parts = ₹105.

Question 4 · Triangle area

A triangle has a base of 16 cm and a height of 15 cm. What is its area?

  1. A. 104 cm²
  2. B. 480 cm²
  3. C. 135 cm²
  4. D. 120 cm² ✓

Answer: 120 cm². Area = ½ × base × height = ½ × 16 × 15 = 120 cm².

Question 5 · Simple interest

Find the simple interest on ₹4,000 at 12% per year for 3 years.

  1. A. ₹144
  2. B. ₹14,400
  3. C. ₹1,440 ✓
  4. D. ₹5,440

Answer: ₹1,440. Simple interest = P × R × T ÷ 100 = 4000 × 12 × 3 ÷ 100 = ₹1,440.
