Answer: 101. nth term = a + (n − 1)d = 11 + 15 × 6 = 101.

Question 2 · AP sums

Find the sum of the first 12 terms of the AP that starts at 1 with common difference 4.

  3. C. 300
  4. D. 270

Answer: 276. Sum = n/2 × (2a + (n − 1)d) = 12/2 × (2 + 44) = 276.

Question 3 · Quadratic equations

What is the larger root of x² − 11x + 28 = 0?

  1. A. 4
  2. B. 11
  3. C. 7 ✓
  4. D. 8

Answer: 7. x² − 11x + 28 = (x − 7)(x − 4) = 0, so the roots are 7 and 4. The larger is 7.

Question 4 · Algebraic identities

If a + b = 5 and ab = 6, what is a² + b²?

  2. B. 25
  3. C. 37
  4. D. 13 ✓

Answer: 13. (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b², so a² + b² = 5² − 2 × 6 = 25 − 12 = 13.

Question 5 · Mensuration

A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 2 cm. What is its volume? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 616 cm³
  2. B. 462 cm³
  3. C. 88 cm³
  4. D. 308 cm³ ✓

Answer: 308 cm³. Volume = π r² h = 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 2 = 308 cm³.
