Answer: ₹28. 5 + 7 = 12 equal parts. One part = ₹48 ÷ 12 = ₹4. Sam gets 7 parts = ₹28.

Find the simple interest on ₹9,000 at 9% per year for 4 years.

Answer: ₹3,240. Simple interest = P × R × T ÷ 100 = 9000 × 9 × 4 ÷ 100 = ₹3,240.

What is the square root of 121?

  4. D. 60

Answer: 11. 11 × 11 = 121, so √121 = 11.

Question 5 · Discounts

A jacket costs ₹1,400. After a 20% discount, what do you pay?

  1. A. ₹1,120 ✓
  2. B. ₹1,070
  3. C. ₹1,380
  4. D. ₹1,170

Answer: ₹1,120. 20% of ₹1,400 = ₹280. ₹1,400 − ₹280 = ₹1,120.
