₹120 is shared between Ria and Sam in the ratio 2 : 6. How much does Sam get?

Answer: ₹90. 2 + 6 = 8 equal parts. One part = ₹120 ÷ 8 = ₹15. Sam gets 6 parts = ₹90.

Question 2 · Averages

What is the average of 36, 45, 27, 31 and 41?

  2. B. 38
  3. C. 36 ✓
  4. D. 45

Answer: 36. Add the numbers: 36 + 45 + 27 + 31 + 41 = 180. Divide by 5: 180 ÷ 5 = 36.

Question 3 · Discounts

A jacket costs ₹1,600. After a 10% discount, what do you pay?

  1. A. ₹1,390
  2. B. ₹1,440 ✓
  3. C. ₹160
  4. D. ₹1,760

Answer: ₹1,440. 10% of ₹1,600 = ₹160. ₹1,600 − ₹160 = ₹1,440.

Question 4 · Circles

A circle has a radius of 14 cm. What is its area? (Use π = 22/7)

  1. A. 638 cm²
  2. B. 616 cm² ✓
  3. C. 44 cm²
  4. D. 196 cm²

Answer: 616 cm². Area = π × r² = 22/7 × 14 × 14 = 616 cm².

Question 5 · Linear equations

Solve for x: 4x + 5 = 49

  1. A. 44
  2. B. 13
  3. C. 12
  4. D. 11 ✓

Answer: 11. Subtract 5 from both sides: 4x = 44. Divide by 4: x = 11.
